Ramallah – Thursday, December 17, 2025 – The Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science has announced the opening of applications for the joint fellowship programme between UNESCO and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, titled the Great Wall Fellowship Programme, for the academic year 2026–2027.
This programme reflects the commitment of UNESCO and the Government of China to supporting human resource development and capacity-building in developing countries, and to strengthening international exchange and cooperation in the fields of education, culture, communication, science, and technology, thereby fostering friendship and mutual understanding among peoples worldwide.
Under this initiative, UNESCO and the Government of China will jointly sponsor seventy-five (75) fellowships for advanced studies across various disciplines at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels during the 2026–2027 academic year. Of these, twenty-seven (27) fellowships will be allocated to new candidates from 135 developing Member States across Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America, Europe, and the Arab region, including the State of Palestine.
The fellowships are offered at selected accredited Chinese universities and are intended for students and researchers who wish to:
Pursue postgraduate studies (Master’s or PhD degrees);
Conduct individual research under periodic academic supervision by accredited scholars in China.
Applicants may apply for one of the following tracks:
A one-year Visiting Scholar Programme (General or Senior Scholar);
A Master’s or Doctoral Degree Programme with a duration ranging from two to five years, depending on the academic programme offered by the selected university.
Programmes are delivered either in English or Chinese. Applicants to Chinese-taught programmes must meet the specified language proficiency requirements.
In line with its strategic priorities, UNESCO strongly encourages the nomination of women candidates.
The Palestinian National Commission noted the following deadlines:
Friday, January 23, 2026 – Final date for submitting applications to the National Commission.
Tuesday, February 10, 2026 – Deadline for the National Commission to submit official nominations to UNESCO, in accordance with established procedures.
Interested applicants are encouraged to carefully review the official application guidelines and annexes issued by UNESCO and to complete their applications electronically through the Chinese Government Scholarship System, in coordination with the Palestinian National Commission.
